Integrating Embung with IOT to Conserve Fresh Water in Arid Kulonprogo Landscapes, DIY, Indonesia.

As part of an effort to strengthen freshwater management in dryland areas, the DRRC UI team—supported by the National Geographic Society through its World Freshwater Initiative—conducted the first field assessment in Dukuh Bendo, Kulonprogo.

The project explores how traditional embung (water reservoirs) and community wisdom can be integrated with IoT technology to co-create sustainable, locally grounded water solutions.

This visit marks the beginning of a journey rooted in ecology, culture, and innovation.
